Montreal police said Giselle Itale Betotti died after being stabbed multiple times Thursday morning. Hosea Amorus Puhya was charged with her death. Police received a 911 call at 8:45 a.m. and responded to the intersection of des Oblats and Wanklyn streets where he found the woman with a stab wound to her upper body. Police say the incident happened in an outdoor parking lot outside an apartment building and that the suspect fled before officers arrived....

The inquiry into the Nova Scotia mass shooting has heard from a former Mountie who says he became so frustrated trying to get the RCMP to adopt a new public notification system that he resigned from the police force. Mark Furey, who later served as Nova Scotia’s justice minister, said that in January 2012 he was an RCMP sergeant when he recommended that police begin using the National Public Warning System, which at the time could broadcast intrusive alerts via television and radio....

Queen Elizabeth II’s flag-draped coffin made its way through the rugged Scottish countryside on Sunday on a final journey from her beloved summer estate of Balmoral Castle in London, with mourners quietly lining streets and some throwing flowers to honor monarch who died after 70 years on the throne. The hearse passed piles of flowers and other tributes as it led a seven-car convoy from Balmoral, where the queen died on Thursday, on a six-hour journey through Scottish towns to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh....

The event will come at the end of an official 10-day mourning period following the death of Queen Elizabeth aged 96 on Thursday. It will be held at 11am in Westminster Abbey. Her son Charles was officially proclaimed king on Saturday and ordered the day of his mother’s funeral to be a public holiday. King Charles III confirmed the holiday during his first meeting of the privy council at St James’s Palace – the first ever to be televised....

But some supporters of the beloved monarch hope Justin Trudeau will declare the day a public holiday, giving them time off to watch the televised service and honor the queen’s memory. “I’m very optimistic and I hope the prime minister will announce it,” said Keith Roy with the Monarchist Association of Canada. “As Canadians, we can come together with a national holiday. And I propose that we turn it into a day of service, where Canadians will have the opportunity not only to attend the service at Westminster Abbey, but to come together that Monday to take action service”....
