PS Stars, the free new rewards program from PlayStation, will see you complete various missions and activities in exchange for rewards – including digital collectibles. These virtual trinkets – which, as it has already been reiterated, are not NFTs – will represent various iconic characters and products from Sony’s history, including the PocketStation and Polygon Man, as revealed in a trailer during State of Play. “Once you’ve earned collectibles, you can arrange them in a virtual showcase in the PS app, and if you choose, you can display your collectibles case on your PSN profile to friends,” explained Sony’s Grace Chen. “There will be different ways to get or earn collectibles – the main way will be completing campaigns.” Interestingly, one of the first campaigns is very similar to Heardle – but with PlayStation games! “A campaign can be a points activity or collectable earnings. One of our first campaigns is “Hit Play/1994″, where members who correctly start matching games with song-based items receive a special collectible. More campaign details to come.” PS Stars launches first in Asia later this month, before expanding to Europe and North America in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see how this exciting initiative expands and matures over time.
