Russian businessman Ivan Pechorin, the top director of the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, has been found dead in Vladivostok, the latest in a series of mysterious deaths among Russian executives.

“On September 12, 2022, it became known about the tragic death of our colleague, Ivan Pechorin, Managing Director for the Aviation Industry of the Company for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic,” the company said in a statement published on Monday. .

“Ivan’s death is an irreparable loss to friends and colleagues, a great loss to the company. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends,” he said.

According to Russian state media RIA Novosti, the Vladivostok administration said a body was found near the village of Beregovoe. Pechorin drowned on September 10 near Cape Ignatyev in Vladivostok, regional media reported.

Pechorin is at least the ninth prominent Russian businessman to reportedly die by suicide or in unexplained accidents since late January, six of them linked to Russia’s two biggest energy companies.

Four of those six were linked to Russian state energy giant Gazprom or one of its subsidiaries, while the other two were linked to Lukoil, Russia’s largest private oil and gas company.

Earlier this year, the company took the unusual public stance of speaking out against Russia’s war in Ukraine, calling for support for the victims and an end to the conflict.

Lukoil chairman Ravil Maganov died in early September after falling from a hospital window in Moscow, according to Russian state news agency TASS.
