UPDATE: 14:45 A man is dead and a woman in hospital with serious injuries after an attempted arrest turned violent near Keremeos on Tuesday morning. On Sept. 13, at approximately 7:45 a.m., RCMP attempted to arrest a man and woman in the 4100 block of Highway 3 near the village. The couple were wanted on outstanding warrants. During the attempted arrest, the man allegedly produced a gun and was shot by police. He died on the spot. As the incident continued, his female companion was also shot. He has since been taken to hospital in serious condition. “Due to potential hazards at the location, the BC RCMP Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit has been contacted and will be attending the scene. The area has been cordoned off and secured,” read an update from the RCMP Tuesday afternoon. “The BC Independent Investigations Office has been notified and is investigating the actions of the police. As the matter is now under investigation by the BC DIO, no further information will be released by the police.” The incident closed Highway 3 for much of the morning and traffic remains limited in the area. Travelers should expect delays. UPDATE: 12 p.m Highway 3 is still experiencing long delays due to eastbound lane closures. Drivers are advised to watch for traffic control. The incident is between Hedley-Nickleplate Road and Ashnola Road, 13 kilometers west of Keremeos.
