A man accused of beheading his ex-girlfriend with a sword in California is believed to be a US citizen, according to Fox News, after earlier reports that he was in the United States illegally. Jose Solano Landaeta was charged with the murder of Karina Castro. Her family said she was killed outside her Northern California home on the street during the day last Thursday, KGO-TV reported. “Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has no involvement with this individual,” the agency told Fox News, responding to the Santa Monica Observer’s earlier report. “[Law-enforcement] arrived within minutes and found an apparently deceased female in the street in that area,” an officer said during a press conference Thursday. “They began working the scene and a short time later, the male suspect returned to the scene and was quickly apprehended by sheriff’s deputies. He was later arrested for murder.” CALIFORNIA DECAPITATION VICTIM IDENTIFIED, SUSPECTED KILLER IS FATHER OF HER CHILD WHO HAD SUMMARY Landaeta had allegedly been violent with Castro in the past, and her family said she obtained a restraining order against him earlier this year, but continued to see him. Landeata is the father of Castro’s 1-year-old daughter. The child and her 7-year-old sister were home Thursday when the alleged killing took place, but they did not see it. After their mother’s death, they were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
