“This is just a drench. There’s no bad weather other than heavy rainfall with this,” says Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips. Environment Canada has issued a precipitation warning for Ottawa, calling for 50 to 75 mm of rain this afternoon through early Wednesday morning. “Rain, at times heavy, today,” Environment Canada said in a statement, adding that heavy rain could cause flash flooding and pooling of water on roads. Rainfall warnings are also in effect for the upper Ottawa Valley, Prescott and Russell, Lanark County and along the St. Lawrence from Kingston to Cornwall. “It’s going to be an all-day affair,” Phillips told Newstalk 580 CFRA in Ottawa at Work with Patricia Boal. “Boy, there’s going to be a lot of rain – not for a month, but anywhere up to 50 to 70 millimeters of rain could fall on the city.” According to the forecast, heavy showers will start this morning, with a risk of thunderstorms. Local amounts of 15 to 25 mm. High of 21C, with temperature dropping to 16C this afternoon. Rain at times heavy overnight and cloudy with a chance of showers. Local amount of 30 to 40 mm. The temperature is stable near 15 C. The record for the heaviest rainfall on September 13 in Ottawa is 28.7 mm, set in 1947. “It’s really a full-day miracle and then we see the conditions being really good with temperatures (this weekend) being three degrees above normal,” Phillips said. On Wednesday the weather will be mostly cloudy. High of 18C, with the temperature dropping to 12C in the afternoon. The outlook for Thursday is clear and a high of 18 C. Friday will be sunny with a high of 19 C.
