Photo: Katana plant UPDATE 9:11 a.m The Kelowna Fire Department tells Castanet they received a report of a grass fire in the area of Gerstmar Rd. and Springfield Rd. early Tuesday morning, but when they arrived at the scene, they discovered a vehicle on fire on Dunster Street. “When they got to the scene, they found it on the hillside above the creek and it turned out to be an abandoned vehicle on Dunster Street. The vehicle was on fire, fully involved,” said Chief John Kelly. Kelly says the vehicle fire was under power lines, so Fortis BC was contacted while the fire was extinguished. ORIGINAL 5:45 am The Kelowna Fire Department had to respond to an early morning vehicle fire in Rutland. The fire broke out at 2 a.m. Tuesday over Gerstmar Park. An eyewitness indicated that the vehicle’s horn continued to blare and loud bangs were also heard intermittently. The fire brigade managed to put out the fire. It is unclear if there were any injuries from the fire.
