Some of the damage sustained in St. John’s thanks to heavy rains over the weekend appear to be widespread, but the city fared much better with Earl than it did with Hurricane Larry a year ago. Several roads were closed due to water accumulation on Sunday and into Monday morning, with some areas – particularly in the Kilbride area – experiencing complete washouts. That said, the city’s Deputy Director of Public Works Lynann Winsor says the damage is “much less” than she saw last year. Winsor owes it to Earl for being mostly a rain event, while Hurricane Last brought strong winds that damaged trees and infrastructure. Mooney Crescent in Kilbride. The city of St. John’s says it may take some time to fix some of the damage caused by Earl. Sandy Hickman and Carl Ridgeley were the only council members to comment on the recent flooding at yesterday’s council meeting. Councilor Hickman says it could take days for some roads in the Killbride area to reopen. He says they will be reopening the dirt roads soon and the city will fix them sometime in the fall. Councilman Ridgeley, who represents the area, is asking residents to be patient as the city assesses the damage. He says crews are doing their best and working hard to repair the damage as soon as possible.
