The United Kingdom has said President Joe Biden will not abide by advice that foreign leaders should travel to Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral by coach. Politico reported on Sunday that foreign leaders had been asked to arrive in the UK on commercial flights and would be taken to the funeral in London’s Westminster by escort buses “due to tight security and road restrictions”. However, Biden will be allowed to travel through London in his armored car, the Times of London reported on Monday. British government sources told The Times that Biden would be allowed to take his car to the funeral for security reasons, in line with his travel arrangements for other visits. A spokesman for UK Prime Minister Liz Truss told a media briefing on Monday that the travel requests were “guidance” and not a rule. They said: “Arrangements for leaders and how they travel will vary according to individual circumstances.” “The arrangements for different leaders will vary depending on things like security risks.” The prime minister’s office also said “yes” when asked if Biden could choose his own mode of transportation to get around London, according to a HuffPost report. Some other world leaders, such as French President Emmanuel Macron, are also likely to take their own vehicles for security reasons, the Times reported.
