With the nomination period for the municipal elections officially ending on Friday, the mayoral race appears to be already over for 11 municipalities, barring any lockouts. The mayors for the following communities are running unopposed, which means they can probably breathe a little easier once the campaign period begins on Saturday, September 17:
OAK BAY – Kevin Murdoch COMOX – Nicole Minions CENTRAL SAANICH – Ryan Windsor DUNCAN – Michelle Staples LADYSMITH – Aaron Stone SIDNEY – Cliff McNeil-Smith TOFINO – Legal Law HIGHLANDS – Ken Williams SAYWARD – Mark Baker ALERT BAY – Dennis Buchanan ZEBALLOS – Julie Colbourne
Many of the mayoral hopefuls are household names, including Central Saanich’s Ryan Windsor, who won the race in 2014 and was recognized once already in 2018, while it appears that Nicole Minions — the sister-in-law of Port Alberni Mayor Sharie Minions — will takes over as first-term mayor of Comox, replacing outgoing incumbent Russ Arnott. Day of general voting in the municipal elections of B.C. will be held on Saturday, October 15.
