For the second time in just over a year, thieves have hit Search and Rescue in the Central Okanagan. On Monday morning, a maintenance team discovered their vehicle had a side window broken, the hood was destroyed and items had been taken. The vehicle is used in extended searches and as a command post for natural disasters. In September 2021, a COSAR equipment trailer was broken into and medical supplies, flare packs, radios and LED lights were stolen. “It is disappointing for members who volunteer their time and energy to serve the public,” said COSAR President Brad Treitz. “Given that the vehicle will now be under repair, this situation reduces our operational capabilities.” “These incidents speak to our need for a new building with a secure location for COSAR equipment. As our services have expanded, we have run out of secure storage space for our equipment and things like the command unit and trailer have to stay out.” COSAR is currently working with the Central Okanagan Regional District to find a larger location for its hall.
