UPDATE 1:45 p.m Peachland’s Gasthaus may not actually be ready to open Thursday as hoped. Manager Andrew Neville tells Castanet they received some “eleventh hour” news that threw a wrench into their reopening plans. The restaurant will open very soon and Thursday’s date is tentative, but customers should be aware that the reopening may be delayed. The Gasthaus website is being revised to reflect the uncertain nature of the reopening. Castanet will update when a firm date for reopening is announced. ORIGINAL 12:45 p.m Nine months after a pipe burst forced the closure of one of the Okanagan’s most iconic restaurants, Peachland’s Gasthaus is finally ready to reopen. The German restaurant says on its website that it will reopen Thursday at 4 p.m. For a limited time, the restaurant will be open Thursday through Saturday. “It was a long process to get our restaurant to reopen its doors. We’ve encountered some very difficult situations over the past nine months,” a statement on the restaurant’s website said. “Now, our current issue is finding staff who want to be part of our team. I’m sure once word of our impending opening spreads, we’ll be back in full force. If you know someone looking for either full or part-time employment, send them our way.” By the time they are fully staffed, Gasthaus says they will be able to accommodate about 50 guests per sitting with two meetings per day. Reservations are encouraged. “We look forward to seeing you again,” the website says, explaining that they will be opening with a Bavarian-style menu. “It’s been a stressful and difficult 18 months or so. But just like the phoenix – we rose once more.” The Gasthaus has been closed since December 27, 2021, when a pipe broke and caused significant water damage to the building. Restoration was then delayed due to the presence of asbestos in the log cabin building that was built in the late 1940s and is part of the restaurant. The entire restaurant needed a complete decontamination and repairs and restoration could not fully begin until the end of April.
