Apple only talks about battery life in hours of use, but now specific details have been revealed — and two of the four iPhone 14 models have increased battery capacity. Apple’s listing of battery capacity in hours is practical in the sense that it’s what most users will think of, but it’s also very approximate. Battery life depends on usage and user settings such as screen brightness, and Apple of course quotes the maximum durations it can. Even now that specific battery capacities have been disclosed in a Chemtec database filing, it is still the case that a user can estimate battery life from the figures alone. However, they do give a point of comparison, not only between the different iPhone 14 models, but also between them and the 2021 iPhone 13 series. The capacities for the new iPhone 14 series are:

iPhone 14: 12.68 watt hours iPhone 14 Plus: 16.68 watt hours iPhone 14 Pro: 12.38 watt hours iPhone 14 Pro Max: 16.68 watt hours

There was no “iPhone 13 Plus” to compare the new iPhone 14 Plus to, but otherwise the previous models were rated as follows:

iPhone 13: 12.41 watt hours iPhone 14 Pro: 11.97 watt hours iPhone 14 Pro Max: 16.75 watt hours

In particular, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a slightly reduced battery capacity — it’s 0.07 watt hours lower. But both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro have increased their capabilities.

In short, assuming the battery management is the same, the battery life will be roughly equivalent to the equivalent iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 Pro has the biggest increase, at 0.41 watt hours. For the iPhone 14, compared to the iPhone 13, it’s an increase of 0.27 watt hours.
