Scotland’s Daily Record says ‘Lady of the people – 1000s line streets for monarch’s final journey’. Crowds are seen lining Edinburgh’s Royal Mile as the hearse passes by. The Guardian’s front page, like most others, has a large picture of the Queen’s coffin draped in the royal standard, carried by passengers. The title is “The Queen Begins Her Last Journey.” Further down the page, the main story is Russian “revenge” attacks in Ukraine. The Financial Times puts up their photo with a banner reading “Queen’s coffin begins journey south as King Charles prepares to tour Britain” – it also gets a Ukraine to report its lead story. “The Queen’s final journey begins” says the i, and most others have some version of that wording. The Mirror calls it the “Ultimate Journey Home”. The Telegraph and Sun echoed King Charles III, calling it “her last big trip”. … while it is the “saddest journey” according to the Express. “Her final journey begins,” says the Times on its front cover. The inside front reads “Five Mile Queue for the Queen” as mammoth crowds are expected for her in state. Metro finds its own words: “Our kind queen.” The Daily Mail says “The saddest journey… now the long goodbye” and can’t resist popping in a gossipy take on the Sussexes and now-Welsh: “Bombshell text sparks unexpected show of family unity.”
