UPDATE: 2:24 p.m Despite the smoke from the wildfires throughout the area, the Sunday morning September 11, 2011 Stair Climb event was a success. Host Derek Liebel tells Castanet that over 150 people are attending the event, including both members and the public. “It went really well. We had a great turnout. We had donations for T-shirt sales and door prizes, and general donations as well. The smoke was nothing we’re not used to,” he said. The money raised will go to the Kelowna Firefighters Charitable Society and the Burns Fund. This was the 4th Annual 9/11 Ladder Climb in Kelowna. The Kelowna Fire Department says it will be running the event for years to come. ORIGINAL: 4 A.M Kelowna remembers 9/11. The 9/11 Stair Climb event hosted by the Kelowna Fire Department will bring the community together to honor the lives lost in New York City on that tragic day 21 years ago. The public is invited to join Kelowna firefighters in a 9/11 honor guard ceremony immediately followed by a hike up Knox Mountain. Donations are welcome and will go to the Kelowna Firefighter’s Charitable Society and the Burn Fund. Participants can register on the Kelowna 911 Stair Climb Facebook page or in person the day of the event. People will meet at the base of Knox Mountain at 9:00 am. on Sunday, September 11, 2022.
