Despite arriving well in time to swim to shore, the reality star was unable to continue. He said: “I honestly thought this would be the challenge for me to show what I’ve got. And I got it wrong, I got it very wrong. I think my foot got a little bit caught on the bag and I went straight down on the bag, knocked out and broke my ribs.” Before the scary jump, Pete said he wasn’t nervous and believed his strong swimming skills would help him. In fact, directing staff Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham even gave him a pep talk beforehand instructing him to take care of Ashley, who isn’t such a good swimmer. He continued: “I was unconscious in the water so I don’t remember much, just that the lifeguards came to get me and threw me out and then they said, ‘we’ve got to get you in the boat.’ “I didn’t want to get in the boat because if you start something, you have to finish it, so I remember trying to swim back. The last thing I remember was trying to make sure Ash was okay. He needs to be on shore and then I realized, ” f**k I’ve really hurt myself here.” His exit from the show added insult and injury. Pete relished the opportunity to push himself to the limits, both mentally and physically, and was disappointed to miss out on some of the show’s famous elements. “Really, I was distracted,” he said. “That’s a little bit of an issue for me, it’s like I’ve always wanted to do this show and the worst thing for me was getting kicked out because that’s something I can do.” t control. “But to be perfectly honest, they’re 100 per cent right because I wouldn’t have been able to continue with my broken ribs. Having come out so early, I was totally absolved because it was a failure. And unfortunately for me now, I feel like I’ve failed .
“It’s something that’s going to haunt me because I just don’t fail at things. I don’t say I’m going to do something and not do it, so I was honestly so hurt, disappointed, and angry at myself. And I still am, to to be honest, even a year later. That was hard for me. I felt like I was going to let a lot of people down, I felt like I would have been letting myself down.” Outspoken Pitt admitted he wasn’t as fit as some of his co-stars, but was adamant he would never have given up his arm. He may well get another chance to prove himself in a future series as he is more than willing to try it all again. “One hundred percent, without a shadow of a doubt I would do it tomorrow if I was given another chance at the course,” Pete said. “I feel like I have unfinished business and I’ve failed as far as I’m concerned. I want to fix that. It was something that’s really going to haunt me. I think there are so many things that happen on this show that would have benefited me as a person. “Everybody who took part in it said they came out a changed person. I think that’s the thing I’m most upset about – that I didn’t get the chance for that. I really felt like I was starting, after a few days, to understand a little more about myself and why I am the way I am. I think that’s what I missed.
“I really think the course would have changed my life. So to leave the way I did has left me very angry. It’s left more than a bitter taste in my mouth, I’m really gutted.” 4 Pete said he would love to give the program again in the futureCredit: Channel 4
