The images surfaced exactly one month ahead of Meta’s Connect event on October 11, which is in line with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s confirmed timeline for when the company will unveil its next VR headset. We expect to hear all about Project Cambria / “Quest Pro” and his other plans for the metaverse, AR and VR. Cardenas first shared the images in the comments section of a post on the Oculus Quest 2 Facebook group and said that many devices were left behind. It’s a remarkable story, but not without (convenient) precedent, including the iPhone 4 prototype being left in a bar in 2010 as the most famous incident, while more recently the unreleased Pixel 7 sold on eBay and a Pixel Watch The original was also lost, apparently, in a restaurant. The sticker on the box indicates that it could be an “engineering sample.” Image: Ramiro Cardenas via Facebook It’s hard to make out many details from the photos alone, but the packaging has a “Meta Quest Pro” label stamped on the top left corner and a graphic showing a black VR headset and controllers. Cardenas also provided a close-up of the label affixed to the box, which says “Not for resale – engineering sample,” and told The Verge that the person left in the room has since claimed the headphones. In July, Bloomberg reported that developer Steve Moser found references to “Oculus Pro” in Meta’s code, so it’s possible that’s the name Meta has settled on for the upcoming device. Meta did not immediately respond to The Verge’s request for comment.
