NFL Week 1 games and best odds

New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons – 1 p.m. ET

Spread: Saints, Hawks Moneyline: Saints, Falcons Total:

A healthy Jameis Winston looks to make a comeback statement for the Saints after tearing his ACL last October. He is surrounded by several new weapons, including rookie Chris Olave and free agent signing Jarvis Landry. Dennis Allen takes over as Saints head coach in Sean Payton’s absence. Marcus Mariota of the Falcons will fill the QB1 vacancy now that Matt Ryan is in Indianapolis. The team also picked up a pair of receivers by drafting Drake London and trading Bryan Edwards to make up for the losses of Russell Gage, Julio Jones and the suspended Calvin Ridley.

San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears – 1 p.m. ET

Spread: 49ers , Bears Moneyline: 49ers, Bears Total:

Trey Lance is locked in as the 49ers’ QB1 after a year as Jimmy Garoppolo’s backup. The Niners made it to the NFC title game last year with essentially the same roster, but this time backing up Lance. Another second-year QB, Justin Fields, will take snaps for the Bears. Fields has far fewer weapons around him to produce wins, which is reflected in the betting markets for this game.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals – 1 p.m. ET

Spread: Steelers , Bengals Moneyline: Steelers, Bengals Total:

Mitch Trubisky got the starting QB nod before Week 1 for the Steelers. Trubisky has some good offensive weapons to use to his advantage. Rookie wide receiver George Pickens was added to that receiving corps in the draft, rounding out a dynamic young crew of receivers for the Steelers. But will Trubisky have time to throw behind a patchwork offensive line? The Bengals were a surprise participant in Super Bowl LVI after entering last season as a longshot to make the playoffs. They have a chance to do so again this year, as the passing attack under Joe Burrow remains one of the most dynamic in the league. The Bengals’ offensive line is improved, but potentially remains a weak spot.

Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions – 1 p.m. ET

Spread: Eagles, Lions Moneyline: Eagles, Lions Total:

The Eagles were a postseason fringe last season and were eliminated in the first round. They brought in talented wide receiver AJ Brown during the offseason and revamped their defense. This looks like one of the more well-rounded rosters entering the season. The Lions finished strong last year, going 3-3 in their last six games with wins over the Cardinals and Packers. There is talent on this team, especially on the offensive line and running back, and the defense got a boost with Aidan Hutchinson in the draft. But Detroit enters the year with a lot to prove.

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins – 1 p.m. ET

Spread: Patriots, Dolphins Moneyline: Patriots, Dolphins Total:

The Dolphins added Tyreek Hill to their roster, giving them two speedy, talented receivers for Tua Tagovailoa. Hill and Jaylen Waddle could give a Patriots secondary some trouble here in this AFC East battle. The Dolphins swept the Patriots last year. The Patriots made some much-needed improvements to their defense this offseason and landed DeVante Parker in a trade with Miami. But futures markets tell us this group has fallen from grace.

Baltimore Ravens at New York Jets – 1 p.m. ET

Spread: Ravens , Jets Moneyline: Ravens, Jets Total:

The Ravens had bad injury luck last year and ended up missing the playoffs. But they brought in talent in the draft and signed free agent safety Marcus Williams, who will fit in well with this defense. If Lamar Jackson can keep his turnovers at bay, the Ravens should bounce back. And the betting market is waiting for it. The Jets had little direction on both sides of the ball last season with rookie Zach Wilson under center. Wilson could miss up to four weeks while he recovers from knee surgery, leaving the team’s fate in Joe Flacco’s hands. The Jets selected Offensive Rookie of The Year candidate Breece Hall, who should give them some good production out of the backfield. There’s no shortage of talent at the skill positions here, but getting the ball in their hands can be a difficult task.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Washington Commanders – 1 p.m. ET

Spread: Jaguar, Commanders Moneyline: Jaguar, Commanders Total:

The Jaguars will look to rebuild after a difficult season under head coach Urban Meyer. New coach Doug Pederson should bring stability and guidance to a team that has added a lot of young talent in recent years. They added Christian Kirk in the offseason, giving Trevor Lawrence another solid receiver to target. Carson Wentz will be the focal point for the Commanders this season after an underwhelming year in Indy. This team has talent on both sides of the ball, but will be without their most impressive player, Chase Young, for at least four weeks.

Cleveland Browns at Carolina Panthers – 1 p.m. ET

Spread: Browns , Panthers Moneyline: Browns, Panthers Total:

This game is expected to be one of the most competitive of Week 1, with the spread hovering around a pick’em at the sportsbooks. The Browns have endured a dramatic offseason with the trade and then suspension of Deshaun Watson, who they paid handsomely to acquire, and a messy split with Baker Mayfield, who they face this week. Jacoby Brissett will start under center with newly acquired Amari Cooper as the WR1 and the Browns stout defense will return to their regular schedule. Mayfield hosting his former team is the main story this week, but fantasy football players will have their eyes on Christian McCaffrey, who is set to have a bounce-back year after being plagued by injuries in recent seasons. It opens up a lot for this offense and gives Mayfield a security blanket in a new offense.

Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans – 1 p.m. ET

Spread: Colts, Texans Moneyline: Colts, Texans Total:

The Colts narrowly missed the playoffs last year after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the final week. But Matt Ryan is the new signal caller in Indianapolis and he has a stat producing machine named Jonathon Taylor in the backfield with a great defense to back him up. They are projected to win the AFC South. This will be another rebuilding year for the Houston Texans who finally moved on from Deshaun Watson. Starting quarterback Davis Mills, Brandin Cooks and rookie running back Dameon Pierce will look to keep them competitive.

New York Giants at Tennessee Titans – 4:25 p.m. ET

Proliferation: Giants, Titans Moneyline: Giants, Titans Total:

Will a new Giants coach and general manager right the ship in New York? Daniel Jones has a lot to prove, and he’ll have a new player and some shiny new plays at his disposal in this offense. But he needs to limit the turnovers that have plagued him since his debut in 2019. Saquon Barkley could be a difference maker in this offense, but he needs to stay healthy, something he hasn’t been able to do since being drafted second overall. The Titans have made the postseason three straight years, including last year as the No. 1 seed in the AFC. They traded AJ Brown but still have Derrick Henry who is expected to return to full form after missing a large chunk of last season.

Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings – 4:25 p.m. ET

Spread: Packers , Vikings Moneyline: Packers, Vikings Total:

Aaron Rodgers is up for his third straight MVP award, though Josh Allen is currently the favorite. Rodgers lost his running mate, Davante Adams, who had nearly three times as many targets as the second-most targeted player in this offense last year. The offense will need to be overhauled, but the defense got a huge boost in the offseason. Between Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen and Dalvin Cook, Kirk Cousins has plenty of options to run a productive offense. They had a stout defense, but new coach Kevin O’Connell is expected to help in that department, and the offensive line improved in the offseason.

Kansas City Chiefs at Arizona Cardinals – 4:25 p.m. ET

Spread: Chiefs, Cardinals Moneyline: Chiefs, Cardinals Total:

This game has the highest over/under of any Week 1 game at 54 points. There were many changes in both teams:

Tyreek Hill moved to Miami JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling were added to the Chiefs Christian Kirk moved to Jacksonville Marquise Brown joined the Cardinals DeAndre Hopkins is suspended

The offensive structure of these two teams is similar with two run-heavy attacks and elite, dynamic quarterbacks leading the way. But the Cardinals have some key injuries entering Sunday.

Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers – 4:25 p.m. ET

Spread: Raiders, Chargers Moneyline: Raiders, Chargers Total:

The last time these two teams played, the Raiders won in overtime to go to the playoffs and send the Chargers home. But the dynamics of both teams changed a lot this offseason. The chargers…
