The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) announced that the new Lotto 6/49 will launch on September 14th and detailed the updated game rules. There will be two draws with the new Lotto 6/49: The “Classic Draw” and the “Golden Ball Draw”. The “Classic Drawing” will become the new main drawing, where ticket buyers quickly play or pick their six numbers, and will have a total of $5 million in jackpots for each drawing. There will also be additional prizes for matching two numbers together in one selection. The new “Ball d’Or Draw” is a 10-digit number that accompanies each ticket, OLG said. Once a winning number is drawn, a separate Golden Ball Jackpot Draw will determine which jackpot the winner will win. This will be either a guaranteed $1 million prize or the Gold Ball Jackpot, which is a growing prize that starts at $10 million and can go up to $68 million. But before the new rules come into effect, there will be a final “special” draw on September 10. As it is the last draw of the current Lotto 6/49, Saturday’s game is set to wipe out all jackpot prizes as there will be no carryover to the new game next week. This means that the jackpot will be awarded to any selections that line up with all six base numbers on a line, or if no player has the winning 6/6 selection, the prize will be split and shared among the winners in the 5/6+ Bonus Categories, 5/6 and 4/6 prizes. On Wednesday, the new Lotto 6/49 will have a $5 million “Classic Draw” jackpot and a $10 million “Gold Ball” jackpot.
