Things started with a bang in Austin as the Tide made their way downfield with relative ease. But the Longhorns’ defense made a huge stop on third down, shutting down QB Bryce Young and forcing the Tide to settle for a field goal on their first drive. It’s gone, it’s gone, it’s gone! Texas tied things up with a field goal of their own shortly after, but things didn’t stay that way for long. Alabama RB Jase McClellan broke for a monster 81-yard score to give the Tide a 10-3 advantage.

The bombs away Recently cut Texas QB Quinn Eversredshirt freshman transfer from Ohio State, showed his arm strength late in the first frame, finding Xavier Worthy for a 46-yard gain that put the Longhorns deep in the red zone. Youers was injured Ewers took a huge hit on the next play, which drew a roughing the passer penalty and left Texas fans holding their breath. After several minutes of watching on the field, Ewers walked to the sideline and into the locker room under his own power with a towel covering his face.

Making it count Head coach Steve Sarkisian was named Ewers the Longhorns’ first last month against the redshirt sophomore Hudson card, who checked into the game for Ewers on first-and-goal. Card fed the ball to star RB Bijan Robinson, who did the rest to tie the game at 10.

Mess with the bull, take the horns The Longhorns defense came up with a huge sack on Young, knocking the Heisman Trophy winner back 11 yards. Texas went on to force three straight Alabama punts in the second quarter. Under pressure Card moved the Longhorns on offense downfield in an attempt to take the lead, but not even two pass interference penalties could do it. Things remained tied at halftime after a missed 20-yard field goal that left Texas fans stunned. On the next drive, Texas backed Alabama up to its own 1-yard line, and chaos ensued. What could have been What looked like a safety and two points for Texas turned into another set of downs for Alabama, as a questionable passing and targeting penalty was thrown at the end of the game. Upon review, the play was ruled an incomplete pass — officials removed both the passer and targeting flags, noting that the targeting had been incorrectly announced on the field. Additionally, Young wasn’t down and avoided a groundout because his throw bounced off a defender’s helmet. Chaos and confusion.

Then in the top of the fourth, Texas extended its lead to 16-10 with another short field goal. On the other hand, the only thing Alabama did was penalties – the most in a game in the Saban era. Alabama finally found its footing and regained the lead, 17-16, midway through the frame. Young capped a masterful 75-yard drive with a 7-yard TD toss to Jahmyr Gibbs.

Game of inches Things came to a head in Austin as the Longhorns defense made a huge stop on fourth down to regain possession with minutes left. Wild finish Texas took a two-point lead, 19-17, on a 49-yard field goal by Bert Auburn with 1:29 left in the fourth quarter. Alabama, however, struck on downs on its next drive, with a 19-yard run by Young bringing the offense back into the red zone. Unhooked Will Reichard connected on a 33-yard field goal to give the Crimson Tide a 20-19 lead with 10 seconds left. This was a game.

Washington State 17, No. 19 Wisconsin 14 The damage is near disaster Badgers QB Graham Mertz found Chimere Dike along the sideline for a 4-yard gain, but the Cougars thought they had the ball after Washington defensive back Armani Marsh appeared to intercept it. Warming up Wisconsin tied things up in the second quarter when Mertz found Clay Cundiff for a 17-yard TD. Mertz continued to show off his arm strength as the Badgers took a 14-7 lead into the break. Spin circle! Washington State took a 17-14 lead into the second half thanks to former Badger Nakia Watson. Wisconsin couldn’t put any more points on the board after that, and the Cougars held on for the upset.

Up for grabs Things got chaotic late in the second quarter as the Cyclones made a wild cut. With momentum on their side, Iowa State added a touchdown in the second half that sealed the victory.
