The 911 call came in around 8:30 am. reporting that a vehicle traveling eastbound on Sherbrooke Street struck several other parked vehicles near Des Ormeaux Street before crashing into a grocery store in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve area.
Montreal police (SPVM) spokeswoman Veronique Comtois said the vehicle struck a 39-year-old pedestrian before crashing into the store.
The 52-year-old driver was pronounced dead and the pedestrian was taken to hospital in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries and died.

The police tent remains in place and the SPVM advises citizens to avoid the area.
