Niagara Regional Police said the men charged and the victims were known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Officers responded around 2:30 a.m. for reports of a large street fight and multiple stabbings on St. Paul between James and Queen streets. Police said they arrived to a “chaotic scene” and, working with paramedics, found several people with minor to serious injuries. Police initially reported five injuries, but Const. Phil Gavin clarified later in the day that the number was lower than originally predicted due to the chaotic scene. Three adult men, all in their 50s, suffered stab wounds. Niagara Emergency Paramedics treated the injured at the scene and transported them to hospital for further care. Police said all three were later released from the hospital. Four people were initially arrested and two were released without charge. Detectives spent much of Saturday canvassing the area and reviewing CCTV footage from city center cameras recorded by the NRP’s real-time operations centre. Police tape was still hanging over a section of the street by afternoon and the sidewalk in front of Pizza Pizza was being power washed. Rohan Errol Chandler, 27, of St. Catharines was charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of possession of substance 1 – fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine and cocaine and failure to comply with a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing. Victor Guy Clayton, 54, of Niagara-on-the-Lake was charged with assault and released with a future court date. The NRP is asking area residents and businesses with cellphone video, closed-circuit security cameras, doorbell video or dash cams to check their footage between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. of September 10 for any activity related to the fight. They said anyone with information can contact detectives at 905-688-4111, ext. 1009482 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers of Niagara online or at 1-800-222-8477. SHARE:
