Members of the royal family stopped before the River Dee to view floral tributes at Balmoral Gate. On their way back to Balmoral from a short prayer service, members of the royal family got out of their cars just before the bridge over the River Dee leading to the castle. The group was led by the Queen’s children, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Princess Anne. Joined by Her Majesty’s four granddaughters, the group stopped to view the floral tributes left at the gates of the Balmoral estate. The Duke of York thanked people for visiting Balmoral following the death of his Queen Mother, saying: “We’ve been allowed a day, now we’re starting the process of handing it over.” The crowd of well-wishers at Balmoral erupted in applause as the royal family applauded them. The family were joined by the Countess of Wessex, Anne’s husband Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Lawrence, and the Queen’s grandchildren Peter Phillips, Zara Tyndall, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and Lady Louise Windsor for a walk after attending a prayer service at Crathie Kirk. The family spent just under ten minutes perusing the tributes and admiring the flowers before returning to Balmoral Castle. Members of the royal family had left Balmoral earlier to attend a prayer service at nearby Crathie Kirk. The Queen regularly visited the small church during her stay at Balmoral.
