The Flood Falls Trail has grown to 50 hectares in size, BC Wildfire says. The alert was issued due to a “potential risk to life, safety and health,” according to the Hope District. The notice applies to the properties highlighted in yellow in the image below. Those in the affected area are asked to prepare for a possible evacuation by locating all family members and people staying at home, designating a place to meet and collecting essential items such as medicine, valuables and fuel. Story continues below ad Residents with animals are asked to have a plan to get them to a safe place. People in the alert zone can also prepare their homes by keeping firewood away from the home, cleaning corners of roofs where trash and embers can collect, cutting grass to less than 10 cm, moving flammable and explosive objects away from the home and clearing any leaves from under terraces and balconies. The BC Wildfire Service said it now has 45 firefighters and five helicopters working on the fire along with the Hope Fire Department. A witness captured images of the fire late Thursday night. Story continues below ad “Due to hot, dry conditions and gusty winds, this fire is expected to grow throughout the day,” BC Wildfire officials said in a 12 p.m. update. “This fire is burning on very steep terrain, presenting access challenges for ground crews. Helicopters are focused on the basin of the northern and eastern flanks of the fire.” Residents in Hope saw the fire late Thursday night. Submitted Officials said that although the fire is highly visible in the community of Hope and to drivers on the highway, Highway 1 is currently unaffected, as are properties and infrastructure.
