Alameda County Sheriff’s Office A Bay Area sheriff’s deputy who allegedly shot and killed a husband with whom he was caught in a love triangle is facing murder charges and will be arraigned Friday. Devin Williams, Jr., a 24-year-old Alameda County sheriff’s deputy, is now facing felony murder charges in Alameda County Superior Court after allegedly murdering his lover, Maria Tran, and her husband, Bennison Tran, early in Wednesday morning at their home in Dublin. According to Alameda County court documents, Dublin police received a call at 12:45 a.m. by Maria’s brother who claimed Williams shot the couple. Police found them with gunshot wounds to the head. Shells marked “Speer 9mm” were found at the scene. County fire officials pronounced the Tran couple dead at the scene. The brother was unharmed. License plate readers spotted Williams’ car driving south on Fallon Gateway near the couple’s home shortly after the call. Around 11 a.m. that day, Williams surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody in Coalinga, 147 miles away from the scene of the alleged murders, the police department told SFGATE on Wednesday. Police detectives say they learned from Williams’ father that his son was in a relationship with Maria Tran and that she had visited their home in Stockton. “Our hearts and condolences go out to the family, friends and community of the two victims killed in this incident,” Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley said in a statement. Williams was arraigned Friday. Joshua Bote is an assistant news editor for SFGATE.
