King Charles III will be officially crowned monarch during a Council of Accession ceremony today. The new monarch will not attend the ceremony at the State Apartments of St James’s Palace and will only join in after he is proclaimed monarch, at 10am, to hold his first meeting of the Privy Council. The historic event comes after Charles III addressed the nation yesterday and paid tribute to his ‘beloved mum’ the Queen, who died on Thursday afternoon at Balmoral. “We owe her the sincerest debt any family can owe to their mother. for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example,” he said. The King pledged a lifetime of service as the new sovereign, as did the Queen, saying: “This promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.” He announced that he had made his son William the Prince of Wales, with Kate the Princess of Wales. In an emotional message, he also expressed his “love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives abroad.”

Charles hailed as ‘probably the most important environmentalist in history’
King Charles has been hailed by a leading member of Britain’s green movement as “probably the most important environmentalist in history”. But Natural England chairman Tony Juniper said he expected Charles to step back from public announcements on the environment and “hand the baton” to his son, Prince William. The new monarch, who has previously been criticized for “meddling” in issues such as genetically modified crops, nanotechnology and architecture, noted in his address to the nation on Friday that his new responsibility to avoid interfering in public debate would mean a campaign end for reasons close to his heart. Flowers and tributes were left by mourners outside Balmoral this morning
The scene outside Balmoral Castle was quiet this morning as preparations were made for the thousands of mourners expected to arrive later in the day. Flowers and tributes have been left by the black and gold gates overnight and a message read: “You are our main support lady, rest in peace.” The world’s media, which had thronged the bank outside the gates on Friday, have been turned away and only selected national broadcasters will be allowed to film in front of the gates. Police have set up two streams to the barricaded gates to manage the crowds of mourners who will soon arrive. A cabinet minister to have an audience with the new king
Cabinet members will have their first meeting with the King just days after Liz Truss formed her new government. Senior ministers will attend the Accession Council at St James’s Palace, where Charles will be formally declared sovereign. They will later travel to Buckingham Palace for an audience with the monarch. Mrs Truss, who was invited to form a government by the late Queen on Tuesday, had her first audience with the King on Friday. The Prime Minister gushed as she was ushered in by a Palace aide for the first of their regular weekly meetings. As she offered her condolences, the king shook her hand and thanked her, saying, “It’s very kind of you to come – I know how busy you are.” He added: “But it was so touching this afternoon when we got here, all these people coming to offer their condolences.” Maryam Zakir-Hussain 10 September 2022 08:14 1662792727

What will happen today?
Today marks D-Day + 1 in Operation London Bridge – a meticulous plan that sets out exactly what will happen when the Queen dies. At 10 a.m. today, King Charles III will be announced at the Accession Council in the State Apartments at St. James’s Palace in London. The event, featuring secret advisors, is split into two parts. In the first part, the Privy Council will proclaim the King and formally approve various subsequent orders, including arrangements for the Proclamation, without the King present. The second part is held by His Majesty the King’s first privy council. The King will make his declaration and read and sign an oath to defend the safety of the Church in Scotland and pass orders in council facilitating the continuation of government. The King will be accompanied by the Queen Consort and the Prince of Wales as they are both privy councillors. (PA wire) Maryam Zakir-Hussain 10 September 2022 07:36 1662790561
Queen’s funeral to be ‘biggest policing and protection operation UK has ever undertaken’
President Joe Biden and dozens of other world leaders will attend the Queen’s funeral as they prepare for “the biggest police and protection operation the UK has ever undertaken”. Monarchs and heads of state from countries around the world are expected to gather at Westminster Abbey for an official gathering on a scale rarely seen in recent decades. Mr Biden said on Friday he would attend, although the date has not yet been confirmed. Thousands of police officers will be on duty each day in the capital as crowds gather at Buckingham Palace and nearby Green Park to pay their respects and the force has urged people to “remain vigilant”. Sorrow turns to joy as the mourners meet the new monarch
Mourners were left “surprised” as King Charles III left his hearse to greet well-wishers outside Buckingham Palace. The new monarch arrived in London from Balmoral following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. He later met with the prime minister and made his first speech as King. James Walmsley, from Liverpool, saw King Charles as he greeted the crowd at Buckingham Palace. “If you said 24 hours ago ‘you’re going to see the king’, you’d never have believed it, but now we’re here,” the trainee teacher told the Independent. “Seeing him made us all feel a lot more positive,” added the 23-year-old. “My biggest concern was will the King become someone you don’t see very often – just because of age? “It’s a shame I haven’t seen the Queen as much in the last 10 years as I did years ago, so it was nice to see him getting out of the car and walking around a bit, being active – it’s a nice sign.”

The video captures the emotional moment when the pilot tells the BA flight of the Queen’s death
A British Airways crew and passengers on a New York-London flight were left fighting back tears as its pilot announced the Queen’s death. The announcement was made over the loudspeaker by the pilot as the plane approached London’s Heathrow Airport, just over an hour after news broke that the Queen had died at Balmoral on Thursday. The touching moment on board BA flight 178 was captured on video by passenger Michael Capiraso, who was flying from the US to the UK to drop his daughter off at Edinburgh University. “Elizabeth the Queen passed away earlier today with family by her side, we have little more information at this time,” the pilot can be heard announcing in the video.
