Sgt. Juno Brady says it was one of the strangest changes of his career.
“In this job, you never know exactly what the day has in store,” he told CTV News. “It could be anything. And it was.”
Brady and two other Calgary Police Service (CPS) officers — constables Cody Aimson and Leo Yeh — were called to a Scenic Acres yard Tuesday night for reports of an animal in a sticky situation.
“At first we thought it was just someone’s pet cat that got stuck,” Juno said. “But as we got closer, it was really growling.”
This is because this was not a pet cat. A bobcat kitten got its legs caught between the cracks of a wooden fence and couldn’t get out.

Brady and two other Calgary Police Service (CPS) officers — constables Cody Aimson and Leo Yeh — were called to a Scenic Acres yard Tuesday night for reports of an animal in a sticky situation.
“So we tried to call the fire department,” Juno said. “And we tried to call Fish and Wildlife, but no one was available. So we had to go in and save the day.” The homeowner offered the trio a piece of wood, which they were able to use to push the legs out of the crack. And then things got even more complicated. In footage from the backyard, you can clearly see one of the officers exclaiming “what the hell?” as a second bobcat appears. Momma bobcat at Scenic Acres, September 9, 2022 “Is that another?” It turned out that a mother and her kitten were facing the same predicament. The mother walked away but remained at the scene to growl at officers as they tried to help her kitten. “We were debating whether we should take out our tasers or not,” Juno said. “How are we going to defend ourselves against this mother cat?” Sgt. Juno Brady says it was one of the strangest changes of his career.
Fortunately for the team, the board was finally able to help push the last stuck leg. And the story — an odd story in a career full of them — had a happy ending. “They both took off,” Juno said. “They were happy, they were healthy and we were glad to see them go. I think the whole area has laughed at the video so far.”
