Owens said deputies were serving a warrant Thursday night when they were ambushed. Cobb County coroner’s officials identified the shooters Friday as Christopher Cook and Christopher Golden. Channel 2 Action News will broadcast the press conference LIVE from 4 p.m [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The names of the MPs who were killed have not been released. “What I can tell you right now is this — simply put it’s simple, my two deputies were ambushed tonight and killed,” Owens said. “The two suspects we believe are the perpetrators of this crime are currently in custody and are being held at the Cobb County Sheriff’s Department for questioning.” Golden has been charged with three counts of felony murder and three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer. Copy of warrant received from Channel 2’s Michelle Newell showed the deputies who were shot were trying to serve a warrant on Cook for three felony counts of theft by receiving and three counts of felony theft by deception. So far no additional charges have been filed against Cook. The deputies were ambushed after they got out of their cars and began talking to the suspects. One suspect opened fire from a car and a second opened fire from the home, according to the sheriff’s office. The two deputies, Owens said, had been with the sheriff’s office for more than five years. Two @CobbSheriff deputies died in the line of duty tonight while serving a warrant. Channel 2 crews were also outside Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital where deputies were taken. Hours after SWAT teams responded, the suspects were arrested around 12:15 am. Owens said he is at a loss for words right now to express his feelings, but asked for prayers for his deputies. “Two husbands lost their wonderful husbands,” Owens said. “Pray for us because we need it. Our hearts are broken here in Cobb County.” Channel 2’s Kristen Holloway spoke with a neighbor, Tiffany, who was locked out of the neighborhood as the situation unfolded. He said it was amazing how the community came together and communicated about what was happening on social media. Neighbors provided snacks and drinks to investigators. Still, he said the neighborhood is devastated by the loss of the two officers. “We’re all devastated, so dark here in the neighborhood because they were here, the (officers) were here to protect us and they were doing their job,” he said. “And we are devastated for the families.” Channel 2 Action News has obtained the arrest report for Cook, who is listed at the home on Hampton Glenn Court where the shooting occurred.
