Family members, including Prince William, the new heir to the throne, rushed to the monarch’s bedside on Thursday. But they took too long to say goodbye to the queen, who passed away at the age of 96. As Page Six reported, Markle was set to accompany her husband Prince Harry to the Scottish estate — but those plans were quickly scrapped. The Queen’s death came just days after Markle gave a bombshell interview to The Cut in which she said Harry had “lost” his father, now King Charles III, because of Megxit. “Tensions were so high and there was no way Meghan would have gone to Balmoral,” a palace official told The Post Friday. Prince Harry traveled to and from Balmoral alone after the royals were left without him and Markle chose not to go. James Watling / MEGA “The fact that the Sussex camp said both Harry and Meghan would go – and then quickly retracted that statement – tells you all you need to know about the drama behind the scenes.” During the interview with the Cut, Markle said the couple had offered to move to a Commonwealth country when it became untenable for them to stay in Britain, adding, “just by existing, we were upsetting the dynamics of the hierarchy. So we go, “Okay, okay, let’s get out of here. Happy.” The prince is now back in Windsor with Markle and is expected to remain at his grandmother’s funeral, likely on September 19.Samir Hussein/WireImage On Thursday, the BBC’s long-time royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell said on air of Markle: “She might not be received terribly warmly, to be perfectly honest about that.” The palace spokesman added: “Harry and Meghan hate being apart from each other, so being alone in Scotland would be very difficult for Harry. No wonder why he left so early.” Markle and Harry were reunited on Friday morning at their Windsor home, Frogmore Cottage, where Harry is expected to remain until his grandmother’s state funeral, which is expected to take place on Monday, September 19. It is not known if the couple’s children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, will be flown from California for the procedure.
