A Kingston Police officer was injured in the line of duty while responding to a man barricaded in his apartment following a stabbing on Princess Street on Thursday, September 8, 2022. According to Kingston police, the 50-year-old man has been trapped in his apartment in a building on the corner of Princess Street and Portsmouth Avenue since yesterday afternoon. The officer was injured as police attempted to remove the man from the building, whereupon the suspect opened fire with a firearm and the officer was hit in the arm by flying shrapnel. According to police, the officer was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. As a precaution, overnight, Kingston Police evacuated the floor of the building surrounding the suspect and another evacuation bus remains on standby. Kingston Police have closed the immediate area to traffic. As a result, Princess Street is closed westbound at Sir John A MacDonald Boulevard and eastbound at Taylor Kidd Boulevard. Portsmouth Avenue is closed southbound at Glengarry Street and northbound at Fairview Street. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
