He was arrested on suspicion of terrorism offenses on Thursday night and remains in custody, according to Counter Terrorism Police North West (CTPNW). The 3,300-pound bomb caused massive damage and more than 200 injuries, but no casualties, on June 15 of that year. Head of Investigations at CTPNW Detective Superintendent Andrew Meeks said: “Although thankfully no one was killed during the 1996 Manchester IRA bombing, hundreds of people were injured – many of them life-changing – and many others in greater Manchester and Northwesterners were affected by what happened that day. “We remain committed to holding those responsible for the attack to account and bringing them to justice and have been re-investigating for several years; with a team of dedicated detectives re-examining the original case files and pursuing new lines of inquiry.” Police have also asked anyone affected by the bombing who has not been contacted by police to access the Major Incident Portal at mipp.police.uk/operation/06GMP20S33-PO1.
